Woman's body pulled from sea on busy Devon beach packed with holidaymakers

A woman's body was pulled from the sea at a tourist-packed beach on Saturday.

Emergency services were called to Croyde Beach in north Devon just after 10.30am on Saturday (18 July) after reports of someone in trouble in the sea.

Paramedics, police officers, HM Coastguard and RNLI crews rushed to the scene where a body was found in the water.

The coastguard said the person in the water was rescued and taken into the care of paramedics, but authorities confirmed that the woman had died.

Police say the incident was non-suspicious, but the exact cause of the woman's death is unknown.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "A body was located in the water. Non-suspicious circumstances."

HM Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard coordinated the response after receiving reports of someone in trouble in the sea at Croyde Bay just after 10.30am yesterday.

The coastguard added: "Croyde RNLI Lifeguards, Croyde, Ilfracombe and Mortehoe coastguard rescue teams have all been sent, along with an air ambulance. South West Ambulance Service were also involved.

"The person in the water was rescued and handed into the care of the ambulance service."

A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (SWASFT), said: “South Western Ambulance Service was called on Saturday, July 17 at 10.42 regarding a medical incident on Croyde Sands, North Devon.

"We sent land ambulance crews, Helimed, a critical care car and Basics Doctor to attend the incident."
