A woman made a huge claim that she found a sharp needle in her McDonald’s meal – only for it to emerge she had placed it there herself.

The horrified customer had poured a packet of fries onto the table and found a needle amongst them.

Ash Te Weri posted her complaint on Facebook, in the hopes of alerting others to the potential hazard.

The McDonald’s branch, in New Zealand, was alarmed by Ms Weri’s claim and, in turn, contacted Whanganui Police.

To help officers, the company provided CCTV footage as well, NZ Herald reported.

Police officers visited Ms Weri’s home and found a “distinctive packet of 20 needles” with one missing.

Detective Ross McKay said officers were confident the missing needle was the same one found within the food and the whole incident was an “honest mistake”.

He said: “The woman did the right thing reporting this incident, as did the business. There was no malicious intent here.”

Ms Weri has since removed the post from her Facebook page.
