Woman Crashes Into Grandmother Because She Was Praying While Driving

(Police Handout)

A pensioner who ploughed into another car, resulting in a woman breaking her neck, told police she was praying at the time of the crash.

Pensioner Marilyn Perry, 63, ran into 50-year-old Pamela Beckham, who was trying to get her grandchildren out of the car at the time.

Mrs Beckham suffered a broken neck in the incident in Bellevue, Ohio, and police first thought Perry has been using her mobile phone while driving.

However, Perry apparently told police that she was actually praying over personal problems when she crashed.

But Mrs Beckham’s husband, Darl, was sceptical of her excuse.

He told Fox8: “I don’t believe that for a second, because church-going people are better people than that.

“For one, they would have made some sort of attempt to at least see if she was okay, or something; they never have.”

A policeman at the scene added: “I went and talked to her and she seemed a little skittish.

“The idea of her thinking it was OK to take her eyes off the road, especially in the middle of a downtown area, I don’t understand the reason and logic.”

Perry was found to have no traces of drugs or alcohol in her system but she promised to enter a substance abuse programme.

She was also ordered to pay $10,000 (£6,125) in compensation.
