Woman dies after Sutton Harbour emergency incident

A woman has died after being pulled from the the water in Sutton Harbour. Emergency services were called to the marina in the early hours of Sunday, May 12 after it was reported a woman was in the water.

Devon and Cornwall Police rushed to reported incident at around 2.30am, alongside the South Western Ambulance Service, HM Coastguard and a Ministry of Defence Police boatThe woman, believed to be in her 70s, was rescued from the water and treated by paramedics but sadly died at the scene.

She is thought to be from Bideford. Police officers are not treating the death as suspicious and say a file will be prepared for the coroner.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were notified at around 2.30am on Sunday 12 May following reports of a woman in the water at Sutton Harbour Marina, Plymouth. The ambulance service, HM Coastguard and MOD Police boat were also called.

"She was recovered from the water and treated by paramedics. Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the woman died at the scene.

"The woman is believed to be in her 70s and from the Bideford area. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A representative for HM Coastguard told PlymouthLive at the time rescue teams from Plymouth and Yealm rushed to the scene and a Plymouth RNLI lifeboat was also sent the assist. A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard assisted Devon and Cornwall Police following reports of a person possibly in the water in the Sutton Harbour area, Plymouth. Alerted at around 2.45am today (12 May), Coastguard Rescue Teams from Plymouth and Yealm and the inshore lifeboat from Plymouth RNLI were sent to the scene."
