Woman fighting for her life after being hit by van as man arrested for GBH

A woman has been left fighting for her life after being hit by a van at a roundabout in Barnsley.

South Yorkshire Police were called to Acorn Way, in the Grimethorpe area, at 11.27am on Thursday (June 27) following reports a 34-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a White Ford Transit van at a roundabout.

The woman was rushed to hospital where she remains in a critical condition. A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police say the circumstances which led to the woman being hit by the van are currently unclear and they are asking for the public to help with the ongoing investigation. A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police added: “We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or the circumstances leading up to it as well as anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV footage.
