Woman Rescued By Passers-By After Attacker Stuffed Her Into A Suitcase

A woman in China was rescued from a suitcase after allegedly being violently beaten and raped.

The suspect, a man known only by his surname Pan, thought he’d killed his victim, Li, as she was no longer moving when his attack ended.

He stuffed her body into a 42-inch suitcase, reportedly planning to dispose of it, but as he wheeled the case along the Yumu Lake in Xiangyan, in Central China’s Hunan Province, Li regained consciousness.

She shouted ‘Help!’ from inside the suitcase, attracting the attention of passers-by who approached Pan.

The assailant abandoned the suitcase and jumped into the river as he tried to escape, but he was chased, caught and subdued by concerned members of the public.

A video taken at the scene shows the moment horrified witnesses first discovered Li alive and unclothed inside the suitcase, leaving them unsure as to how to react.

She was eventually helped out of the suitcase and given a T-shirt to wear while Xiangtan City police were called to the scene.

Li told officers she and Pan were flatmates, and that he attacked her and raped her in their residence. Li is in stable condition, having survived to tell the tale of her horrifying ordeal. Pan is in police custody and is now under investigation.
