A woman has been rescued from the Firth of Clyde as she fell overboard a CalMac ferry. The MV Isle of Arran was travelling from Brodick to Ardrossan when the alarm was raised on Monday and the crew launched rescue boats just before 8.30pm.

The individual was pulled from the water and returned to the ferry, which docked before she was rushed to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock. Her current condition is unknown.

Craig Ramsay, fleet management director at CalMac, said: “As the Isle of Arran approached Ardrossan, a passenger entered the water and was quickly recovered using the vessel’s rescue craft, following the emergency procedures regularly exercised by crew. An investigation into the circumstances will now follow, in line with our protocol in this situation.
