Police are investigating the death of a woman and two young children whose bodies were found at an address in Bolton, Greater Manchester.

Officers were called to a terraced property on Arthur Street in Little Lever at 3.50pm on Monday, after receiving reports of concern for the woman’s welfare.

It is currently unconfirmed if the woman is the mother of the two children.

A statement from Greater Manchester Police said: ‘Officers attended and the bodies of a woman and two young children were found.

‘Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the deaths are ongoing.’

Residents on the street where they were found are said to be ‘devastated’ by the news.

Bolton Councillor Sean Hornby said of the discovery: ‘I have spoken to residents in the area they are obviously shocked and very upset.

‘I am saddened by the news; my thoughts are with close relatives of the family.

‘We will await the findings of the police. There is speculation as to what has happened, but the police investigation will confirm what has happened with regard to this tragedy.

‘I will be speaking to senior officers for an update in the morning.’
