Here's how to use the homemade solution to whiten your clothing

Clothes that need freshening up should be placed in your washing machine, and approximately 120ml of vinegar added where the fabric softener usually goes in the detergent drawer. As per normal routine, pour in your laundry detergent.

Also add a handful of salt into the mix and try to dissolve it as much as possible. Run your washing machine on a standard cycle. Once done, your clothes should appear radiant and rejuvenated.

The effectiveness of this do-it-yourself solution lies in the acetic acid content of white vinegar, which aids in breaking down soap residue and mineral deposits that can make clothing appear dull or discoloured.

Vinegar also acts as a natural fabric softener and can be used as a substitute whenever your clothes need rejuvenating.

Salt, being mildly abrasive, can gently scrub clothing to help restore its whiteness or brightness.

Cathy stated: "Honestly, I'm not sure I will ever use the store-bought stuff again. Oh, and just in case you were wondering, no, the clothes do not smell like vinegar when you're done the washing."

"That's it! Now that you know how to restore colour in clothes really easily, you can go revive some of your favourite pieces of apparel!"
