A Wootton man has been charged following a four vehicle crash in Newport on the Isle of Wight.

George James Swain, 25, of Mary Rose Avenue in Wootton, is due to appear in court tomorrow (April 11).

He has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Four vehicles were involved in the collision on the southbound carriageway of Medina Way, Newport yesterday (April 9).

A Honda Civic involved in the crash had been reported stolen from the car park of Lushington Garden Centre, between 7.30am and 11am yesterday morning.

The other vehicles involved were a blue BMW X5, black Kia Sorrento, and grey Nissan Qashqai.

The road was shut for a time and minor injuries were reported.

Earlier, police launched an appeal for witnesses and dash cam footage.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We would like to speak to any witnesses of this collision, and anyone with relevant dash cam footage.

"We would particularly like to speak to anyone who saw any of the vehicles travelling on Fairlee Road, Coppins Bridge or Medina Way prior to the collision."
