Worcestershire cricket star Josh Baker found dead at home by friend after he didn't show for match

Worcestershire cricket star Josh Baker was found dead at home by friend after he didn't show for a match. Baker had been playing in a four-day second XI match against Somerset at Bromsgrove school this week, taking three wickets on the third day but then failing to show up on the fourth.

The Mail have detailed that Baker was found in his home by a friend who had gone looking for him after he did not show up. Baker had not answered calls, which prompted his friend to head to his apartment, according to the newspaper.

“The news of Josh’s passing has left us all devastated,” said Ashley Giles, the club’s chief executive. “Josh was much more than a teammate; he was an integral part of our cricket family. We will all miss him terribly. All our love and prayers go out to Josh’s family and friends.”

The club said: “We are united in our grief and committed to honouring his memory in a manner befitting the remarkable person he was. It was his vibrant spirit and infectious enthusiasm that endeared him to everyone he met. His warmth, kindness, and professionalism were remarkable, making him a true credit to his family and a loved member of our team.”

Wisden said: "Yesterday, Josh Baker was in the wickets for Worcestershire against Somerset in the Second Eleven Championship. Today, suddenly, he is gone. He was only 20. The match has been abandoned, of course. It is now a day for grief and reflection."

Kevin Pietersen said: "Goodness me, this is heartbreaking! Thoughts to all of Josh’s family, friends and WCCC! Horrific news of this up and coming young cricketer leaving the world way too soon! RIP, young man!"

Jacob Lunn said: "I’ve read the tweet about 1000 times I still can’t believe it. It does make you realise how fragile life is and how much we take it for granted. Also I think this shows actually how together this community is. RIP Josh."
