World's Largest Iceberg Filmed From Air as It Bears Down on South Georgia

A British military aircraft based in the Falkland Islands on December 8 captured aerial footage of what NASA described as the world’s largest iceberg.

The UK’s Ministry of Defence warned that the iceberg, which is called A68a, “has the potential to drift near” the coast of South Georgia, a British Overseas Territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean.

If the iceberg was to ground on South Georgia, it could pose a threat to penguins, seals, and other wildlife, the BBC reported. South Georgia’s government said it was “keeping a close eye” on the iceberg. Credit: UK Ministry of Defence via Storyful
