It's an issue everywhere, especially at the end of a long winter. Potholes plague our streets and make it difficult, uncomfortable and, sometimes, dangerous, to drive or cycle. And Swansea residents claim there are several roads across the city that are crumbling and in particular need of some TLC.

We asked residents to share their experiences and views on what the worst streets are for potholes in Swansea. Among their complaints, one resident said taxis actually refused to go down one road in Fforestfach as it was so littered with potholes, whilst another Swansea resident said a main road in the Morriston area of the city had "more holes than a dart board"! Scroll down to see what our readers told us about the Swansea streets that have gone to rack and ruin.

Fortunately, Swansea Council has set aside more than £6.5million to fix roads and potholes in the coming year. A statement from Swansea Council explained: "Swansea Council's Cabinet is being asked to approve a programme of work that will see road repairs, drainage improvements, footpath upgrades and street light improvements across all communities in the city.

"This year around £1.2m is set to be invested in the small resurfacing scheme (SRS) with a further £3.8m being spent on carriageway resurfacing as well as footway renewals and bridge repairs. There will be £700,000 for drainage and preventing flooding during heavy rain and £450,000 for street light refurbishment." For the latest Swansea news, sign up to our newsletter here

Cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, Andrew Stevens, added that the highways fund was a significant investment in improving city roads and footpaths in city communities. "Since April last year we've filled in more than 6,500 potholes - well over 95% of them within 48 hours of being reported to us by members of the public," he said. "These are repaired using specialist all-weather repair material designed to be used to make quick permanent repairs.

"A further 2,000 safety repairs have been carried out using traditional methods. This time of year our teams are always busier because of the impact of freezing and wet winter weather and the weight of traffic cracking-up road surfaces. We're also the only council in Wales to have made the 48-hour repair pledge to take action which means our repair teams are busier than most."

Cwmrhydyceirw Road, Morriston

One resident said: "Cwmrhydyceirw road is shocking. From top to bottom it's got more holes than a dart board!" Another resident agreed: "Totally agree, all the way from Golden House to the roundabout by CRC Primary [Cwmrhydyceirw Primary School] is in a shocking state."

"I've raised many reports on Council website but I think the whole stretch needs complete resurfacing, filling the potholes on an individual basis isn't going to be enough really is it?" they further claimed. "It's a pity that they've used loads of tarmac to install a hump at the turning into Morriston Hospital off Heol Maes Eglwys. Just imagine how many potholes that could have filled?..."

Llangyfelach Road, Treboeth to Llangyfelach

Multiple residents said Llangyfelach Road was one of the worst for potholes in Swansea. "Llangyfelach Road Treboeth area to Llangyfelach [is one of the worst]," said one resident.

Listing several roads, another resident said: "St Albans Road Brynmill, Ceri Road Townhill, top end of Llangyfelach road towards the crematorium. So many roads need doing it's shocking what we got to drive on - the law is you got to have an MOT, well give us decent roads to drive on Swansea Council."

"Llangyfelach Road right outside Pure football. Absolutely shocking," said another resident. Their comment received 86 'likes' from like-minded residents, suggesting many agreed with them. "Absolutely horrendous stretch of road," said another. "Like navigating the Grand Canyon coming out of Pure Football!"

"It's the worst road in Swansea," claimed another resident. "Dangerous too."

"I fear some unlucky motorcyclist is going to be injured or worse if he comes off his motorcycle in one of those potholes," added another resident. "I agree Llangyfelach Road is a disgrace. But I've seen worse on other roads."

Dual-carriageway near J47, M4

WalesOnline understands potholes on this stretch have been filled-in in the past week. Listing the road as one of the worst in Swansea for potholes, one resident initially said: "The dual carriageway towards the motorway J47 is dire at the traffic lights (Parc Penllegaer is to the right)." In response, Swansea Council shared a photo of workers at the scene and wrote: "We were there a couple of nights ago."

Another resident replied: "[That road] was resurfaced Wednesday night, thankfully." "It's been resurfaced," added another resident. "Much better now!"

Slip road onto M4

On our post on social media, 27 people 'liked' a comment left by one resident that "the slip road onto the M4 from Penllergaer roundabout" has potholes that need to be filled-in, suggesting multiple people agree with the resident. Another resident said: "Jct 47 Penllergaer slip road! Dodging joining the motorway!"

Another resident said they'd reported this incident, twice - but Swansea Council said it was South Wales Trunk Road Agent that was responsible for the motorway, not the council. "Hi [commenter], did you report it to SWTRA as they are responsible for the motorway, info here: https://traffic.wales/south-wales-trunk-road-agent-swtra - thanks," Swansea Council wrote.

Pentregethin Road, Cwmbwrla to Fforestfach

This busy road stretches across the city and residents said there were patches of potholes throughout. One concerned resident said: "Pentregethin Road past the One Stop [convenience shop] heading to Tesco's, now I don't drive and I've noticed how bad those pot holes are and the worst part is it's throwing all little stones all over the place it absolutely shocking!"

Waun Road, Loughor

Sharing a photo of potholes across the middle of the road, one resident claimed: "This is just one of many. Keep reporting but nothing gets done and now covers the whole road!"

"The potholes in Waun Road down towards Pont-Y-Cob in Gorseinon/Loughor are awful," another resident said. "Span the width of the road and in some places are a few inches deep."

Lanes around Sketty

One local resident claimed they'd reported potholes in the lanes around Sketty "time and time again" but said any fixing doesn't last.

"The Sketty lanes (in the both directions of Cockett and Waunarlwydd), they are so dangerous!" the resident claimed. "Big creator [crater] holes that cars are literally getting stuck in. If someone unfamiliar with the roads hits them it could cause a massive accident

"I've reported them time and time again but they either get filled with some sort of temporary stuff that just comes back out and leave a bigger hole, or nothing gets done at all."

A4118 from Killay to Port Eynon

One resident joked that the entire road was one big pothole. "A pothole? How about the worst road in Swansea for the amount of potholes along its entire length? That has to be the A4118 all the way from Killay to Port Eynon," they said. "There are so many along there it would be impossible to count. Plus a pointless set of temp traffic lights at Scurlage, that change to red even though you are the only one on the road (both ways) for miles. There are no roadworks going on, or any other reason for them to be there."

Gowerton cross, Gowerton

"The holes on Gowerton cross are now big enough to grow vegetables in, but the ones on the slip road going onto the M4 at Penllergaer are downright dangerous," one resident said. "Gowerton is one big pot hole lately," said another.

Brickyard Rd, Fforestfach

"Brickyard Road [is one of the worst for potholes in Swansea]. Local taxis won’t even go down it it’s so bad. More pothole than road," one resident claimed. Want less ads? Download WalesOnline’s Premium app on Apple or Android
