“Simon couldn’t have wished for two more relevant acts than Little Mix and Ellie,” a source told The Sun.

“Both are right at the top of their game and will certainly appeal to younger audiences.”

The insider added: “It’s also a great way for the acts to get some much-needed exposure for their new music.”

Meanwhile, Ben’s fellow finalist and last year’s X Factor runner-up Fleur East has revealed that she will also be returning to the stage to sing in front of the panel of judges.

In fact, she pushed back the release of her debut single SAX to coincide with her appearance, telling fans on Twitter: "I’ve decided that I didn’t just want you to hear it. I wanted you to experience it with me for the first time. I think this is the best way for me to share the song with you.”

Don’t miss out on the first of the musical extravaganzas and tune into the X Factor live shows this Saturday and Sunday on ITV from 8pm.
