The star impressed when she made a brief appearance during Simon’s Judge’s Houses section of the show just two weeks ago, and now fans are demanding a permanent return from he former judge.
Speaking to The Sun, a source explained: “It looks like Cheryl will be back next year. Simon knows Nicole is likely to leave and he wants a big name, and some much-needed glamour on the panel.
“He knows he will get that with Cheryl and she would be a really popular signing and a huge hit. He is a huge fan of hers and has been turning on the charm to ensure she comes back.
“They have had several meetings about it and Simon has had his top people on the case to make sure it is all sorted.”
The shake-up comes after Nicole hinted that she might quit the show, with the US beauty the only star to not yet sign up to next year’s series of the ITV singing competition.
Nicole recently said that she is “incredibly ambitious”, revealing that she has lots of other things that she hopes to achieve in her career – specifically within the music industry.
If Cheryl does return to the show, she will be sitting alongside Simon, Louis Walsh, and Sharon Osbourne.
The singer, who welcomed her first son, Bear, with boyfriend Liam Payne in March of this year, first joined The X Factor in 2008, winning the show twice with Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry.
She quit in 2011 before returning for two series in 2014.
