X Factor's Honey G: 'I was kidnapped and sexually abused as a student'

This series of The X Factor has arguably been dominated by one particular character, with hopeful Honey G causing controversy after she got four ‘yeses’ following her first audition despite it being slightly unconventional.

The scandal only heightened when it was announced last night that Sharon Osbourne had chosen Honey G, real name Anna Georgette Gilford, to replace Ivy Grace in the Judges’ Houses section of the show, even though she was strongly against her progressing any further during the Six Chair Challenge.

Now the rapper “from North Weezy’ has opened up about her past, claiming that she is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted in her final year of university.

The 35-year-old wannabe was studying at Salford University in North West England when the attack took place, telling The Sun: “Obviously the effect the bad experience had on me – it kind of ruined my confidence, it knocked me and basically it’s affected my whole life.

“Basically in my final year of university I was car hijacked and kidnapped and sexually assaulted.

“A man was convicted for what happened – for the crime. I’ve come through as a stronger person. It wasn’t that I got into the wrong crowd or anything like that.”

Honey went on to insist that she hopes appearing on The X Factor will help debunk the stereotype that all rappers are associated with violence.
