Simon Cowell has revealed that he's scrapping The X Factor's iconic theme tune after describing it as "one of the three worst theme songs I've heard".

Yep, despite keeping it for nearly 15 years since the show launched, the judge and creator has revealed he wants all upcoming series to get a new theme... every year.

"We're scrapping the theme song – I can't listen to that again," Simon told The Sun. "You get into a habit with these things but it's one of the three worst theme songs I've heard.

"I'm asking around LA to see if someone can write us something new. I'd like X Factor to be like the Bond films and have a new theme every year."

To be honest, we just want to know what the other two "worst theme songs" that he alluded to are?

Simon has also revealed plans to revamp the show's set ahead of the upcoming celebrity and all-stars versions of the show.

"I haven't decided how it will look yet – but I have met with a designer," he added.

Meanwhile, judge Louis Walsh recently opened up about previously being sacked from the series ahead of his return for the celebrity version – which has just begun filming.

"I was sacked and paid off. There's no hard feelings," he admitted. "I had 13 years. I love Simon. Simon's the best person in the world. I love working with him.

"I used to work with him every day. The reason Westlife are here is because of Simon. He started this band. He gave us all the hits. He was an amazing A&R guy. Nobody better."

The X Factor will return to ITV later this year.
