You might want to sit down for the new Alien: Covenant trailer - because there are bona fide Xenomorphs in it and they go on the attack.

Subtitled with the frightening warning "The path to paradise begins in hell" (actual yikes), the first thing we see is the crew aboard the titular colony ship Covenant.

They think what they come across is just some unexplored nirvana. Then, they realise it's actually a menacing, Xenomorphs-filled realm with only one surviving resident: Michael Fassbender's android David (or is it Walter?).

It was reported on Tuesday that Alien: Covenant is arriving in cinemas sooner than expected. Ok, only by a week, but we'll take anything we can get.

Sir Ridley Scott's Covenant will act as a direct sequel to 2012's Prometheus, and also brings back Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw and Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland.

They're joined by newcomers Katherine Waterston, Demian Bichir, Billy Crudup, James Franco and Danny McBride.

Digital Spy recently got some scoop on Alien: Covenant directly from Fassbender, who hinted that his two androids might not get along so well once they're both on board the same ship.

"I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say," he teased. "Well, [Walter is] definitely a servant of the ship.

"We're coming to a period after Prometheus… The thing is, obviously, there's been modifications to the robots since then. So there's been developments because of some of the things that David had that perhaps were a bit worrying for people - the characteristics."

Alien: Covenant will be landing in cinemas on May 12.
