Netflix has issued a huge update on the second season of its hit rom-com drama XO, Kitty.

The series, a spin-off to the To All The Boys I've Loved Before film franchise, debuted in May last year. Jenny Han, who wrote the original books the films were based on, serves as executive producer and showrunner for XO, Kitty.

It stars Anna Cathcart as Kitty Song Covey, the younger sister of Laura Jean from the film series. Kitty journeys to South Korea to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, where plenty of drama ensues.

The cast also includes Minyeong Choi as Dae, Gia Kim as Yuri, Sang Heon Lee as Min Ho, Anthony Keyvan as Q and Regan Aliyah as Juliana. Rounding off the line-up is newcomer Audrey Huynh as Stella, Sasha Bhasin as Praveena, Joshua Lee as Jin and Jocelyn Shelfo as Madison.

The first series went on to top the Netflix TV show charts in 49 countries. A month after premiering, Netflix confirmed the show had been renewed for a second season. Ten months on, the streamer has offered fans another update.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Netflix announced: "XO, KITTY S2 [heart emoji] NOW IN PRODUCTION". It also shared a clip of the cast members, as they transitioned from holding their scripts in a rehearsal room to standing outside the Korean Independent School of Seoul where the series is based.

While many fans were excited by the news, others criticised Netflix for the production taking so long. @teendrtbagg said: "it should’ve been in production years ago idk…" as @bellabearz13n asked: "HOW FAST CAN YOU SHOOT, EDIT, AND PUT THIS OUT?! I NEEDED IT LIKE YESTERDAY."

@Neptune_Leo22 asked: "What do you mean in production" as @meltborne complained: "y’all should’ve started filming 2 months ago but i’ll take it as long as you bump s2 to the end of the year netflix".

The longest SAG-AFRA strike in history, lasting from July to November last year, and the Writers Guild of America strike, which ran from May to September 2023, saw the production of many shows and films halted.

A release date for XO, Kitty season two is yet to be confirmed. Season one is available to stream now on Netflix.
