New York City Firefighter Discharged From Hospital After 40-Day Battle With COVID-19

New York City firefighter Captain Hugo Sosa received an ovation from his fellow firefighters on May 15, after his recovery from COVID-19 and discharge from White Plains Hospital.

Footage from the New York City Fire Department’s Facebook page shows Sosa leaving the hospital, greeted by a large crowd of masked well-wishers waving signs and cheering. The captain was in the hospital for more than 40 days, the fire department said.

NYFD Deputy Assistant Chief Denise Werner said in the post, “It’s a very joyous day for us. Hugo is very important to us.”
