York River Ouse rescue as heroes need saving after person falls in

Three people were rushed to hospital after they fell into the River Ouse in York.

One person had initially fallen into the water near Ouse Bridge at about 1.30am today (Monday, May 13). And two others then darted into river in a bid to save them - but ended up getting swept under the current.

A rescue boat then had to be deployed for all three. North Yorkshire Police issued the following statement.

It said: "At just after 1.30am this morning we responded to reports that a person was in the River Ouse near to Ouse Bridge. We alerted the Fire Service and the York Rescue Boat who deployed to the scene along with the Ambulance Service.

"Three people were rescued from the water, two of them were members of the public who entered to try and rescue the initial person. All three were taken to hospital as a precaution."
