A murder investigation has been launched by police after a man from Yorkshire was brutally beaten to death in a pub following England's 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday.

The victim, a 57-year-old man from South Yorkshire, is believed to have been the target of football-related violence when he suffered fatal injuries at a West Sussex pub. The attack happened less than three hours after the disappointing Euro 2024 match, according to Sussex Police, who reported the victim was attacked by three men inside The Dolphin and Anchor Wetherspoon.

Emergency services raced to the pub where they performed CPR on the street outside the pub in a desperate attempt to save the man's life. Despite their best efforts, paramedics were unable to and he was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.

Two men have since been arrested by the police - a 30-year-old man from Birmingham on suspicion of murder and a 42 year old man from County Durham on suspicion of affray. Both are currently in police custody.

A third man, also suspected of affray, has been identified by investigators but remains at large, with officers actively searching for him.

Sussex Police have issued an appeal for any information regarding the shocking incident. A spokesperson for the force stated: "The cause of the incident remains under investigation, and we're urging anyone with information to come forward as we seek to establish the full circumstances."
