You can now do an actual course in Kanye West studies

So Washington University are now offering a course in Kanye West studies – and there’s apparently already a waiting list.

But before you go signing up, thinking you’ll learn how to stage-invade like a boss and spit lyrics like they’re nasty tasting, it’s not actually as totally daft as it sounds.

The course is called “The Politics of Kanye West: Black Genius and Sonic Aesthetics,” and, according to the course description, this is what it’s all about.

“Mr. West is used as a case study for interrogating the interplay between fame, gender, sexuality, and race.

“Mostly, we explore how racialized ways of doing iconography, complex ways of seeing, creates a distorted or reductive frame through which we see the black and famous.”
