You Should Eat Less Even If You’re Not Overweight - Here’s Why

This won’t be welcome news for the lucky few who don’t need to shed a few pounds - you should probably eat less anyway.

Previous research has shown that eating less could lead to a longer lifespan - but that’s far from the only benefit, new research has found.

Researchers from the Pennington Biomedical Research Center asked volunteers aged 20-57 to reduce their calorie intake by 25% - comparing themselves against other volunteers who ate a normal diet.

The results were surprising - people on a calorie restricted diet were happier, less stressed, slept better and had better sex, according to the LA Times.

Over the two years of the study, calorie-restricted volunteers reported their moods improving, and falling tension levels.

They also reported (slightly) better sleep.

Volunteers on the calorie-restricted diet also reported improvements in their sex drives, and their relationships.

‘We found that normal-weight and mildly overweight people who wish to lose weight need not worry about decreased quality of life,’ said Corby Martin of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center.

‘They can actually expect to feel better.’
