A little Leonard, Penny, Howard, Raj, Amy and Bernadette are all set to make an appearance in the season 2 finale of Young Sheldon.

The finale, which will air right after the last ever episode of The Big Bang Theory, will see the younger versions of the characters appear as part of the prequel series' storyline and will also act as a tribute to the actors who play them – Johnny Galecki, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, Kunal Nayyar, Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch.

Of course, this isn't the first crossover between The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Earlier in the 12th season, Young Sheldon (Iain Armitage) made a guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory when older Sheldon (Jim Parsons) watched back a VHS of his younger self.

Although The Big Bang Theory may be coming to an end, Young Sheldon has been renewed for a third AND fourth season by CBS.

Announcing the two-season renewal, Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, said in a statement: "Thanks to Chuck Lorre’s and Steve Molaro’s outstanding creative leadership, Young Sheldon has been a powerful performer for the network with an audience that towers over most of the television landscape.”

As for the season finale of The Big Bang Theory, it will be followed by a special farewell episode, titled Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell, which will follow leading stars Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki as they take viewers behind the scenes of the show.

The duo will front a tour of the set and share clips of their favourite moments from all 12 seasons, along with interviews with other people involved with the series.

The final Big Bang will air between 8pm and 9pm on May 16, Young Sheldon will air at 9pm, and Unraveling the Mystery will air at 9.30pm on CBS (all times are ET/PT).
