Kitchens are notoriously tricky to clean.

Not only do they turn into a bomb site when we’re cooking, it’s also easy for spillages and crumbs to go everywhere. It can take ages wiping down counter tops and units after whipping up a feast.

Then you also have to tackle bigger tasks like unblocking sinks, clearing fridges out, banishing stubborn grime from ovens and clearing burnt bits from the toaster.

And it comes as no surprise that the microwave is often an area that gets neglected. This is a big no-no, as you’ll want to make sure you’re heating meals in appliances that are nice and clean.

Consuming food that’s contaminated is never a good idea. So thankfully, we’ve got a hack out there that makes the task much easier.

A savvy TikTok creator called ken.c.long revealed how to get the job done in a jiffy. All you need is a microwavable dish or jug, and a few simple ingredients to pull it off.

Demonstrating the hack in the informational video, he mixed together a cup of water, a cup of vinegar and two tablespoons of lemon. Next, he placed the mixture in the microwave and set a two minute timer.

After the concoction was heated in the appliance, he allowed it to sit for five minutes with the door closed. Apparently, the steam created inside helped budge stubborn grease and food stuck inside.

When you open the door, it will then be much easier to wipe out any dirt and grime stuck inside the appliance. Job done!

The video went down a treat on TikTok, where it garnered plenty of positive comments. One person said: "This is genius." Another wrote: "I do this."

A third replied: "For better heating of things, never put things in the middle, but on the edge of the rotating plate." While fourth also chimed in with: "I actually use this one but without the lemon." We can't wait to try it!
