Justice League director and DC stalwart Zack Snyder has paid tribute to departing Batman Ben Affleck.

In fact, he's gone as far as to call him the "best Batman ever" in a new post on social media platform Vero. High praise indeed.

"There was a time above… a time before… there were perfect things… diamond absolutes. But things fall… things on earth," he captioned a picture of Batfleck.

"And what falls… is fallen. In the dream, it took me to the light. A beautiful lie… Best Batman ever. Thank you my friend for blessing me with that f**king glorious chin and an amazing heart."

Snyder directed Affleck's Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

The actor confirmed that he was stepping down as the Caped Crusader back in January, and recently revealed just why, ahead of the planned standalone movie The Batman.

"I tried to direct a version of it and worked with a really good screenwriter, but just couldn't come up with a version – I couldn't crack it," Affleck said. "And so it was time to let someone take a shot at it. They've got some really good people."

The movie has been taken over by director Matt Reeves, who recently hinted that he would soon begin casting on a Batman "Rogue's gallery" of villains.

"It's very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale," he said. "It's told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it's going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It's more Batman in his detective mode than we've seen in the films."

The Batman will be released on June 25, 2021.
