A Darlington man has been jailed after driving his car at speed into a theatre in the north English town on March 7.Police said Richard Kelly drove his Ford Puma through a T-junction, crashing into metal barriers outside Darlington Hippodrome and into the front of the building.Police released CCTV showing Kelly’s car narrowly missing other vehicles before smashing into the theatre.Kelly was not wearing a seatbelt and smelt strongly of alcohol, police said. He suffered broken ribs in the crash.Kelly admitted a charge of dangerous driving, and said he “deliberately” drove at the building after pressing the accelerator instead of the brake.He was sentenced to 12 months in prison on May 1, and banned from driving for 16 months.
