Zayn Malik Brags He Was Influenced By John Lennon While Making New Record

He hasn’t written anything like Imagine.

But Zayn Malik reckons his muse is John Lennon.

The former One Direction singer, below, said he drew inspiration from the Working Class Hero legend when he wrote his single Fool For You from his debut solo album Mind Of Mine.

The 23-year-old told NME magazine: “I was listening to a lot of John Lennon the week I got that loop. And there was this one song I got addicted to, with Indian music at the front of it, sitar, and then it becomes, like, another song.”

Malik also revealed the meaning behind the title of his record, released on March 25, and he hopes listeners will connect with the music by listening to it when they are going through different stages in their life.

He added: “It’s really reflective of the whole experience that I want to give the listener. I wanted it to be almost like a brainstorm. It’s just music and it’s just whatever you’re feeling at that moment in time.”

The Pillowtalk hitmaker, dating model Gigi Hadid, above, after splitting with Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards, also hopes his music is going to give him longevity as a solo artist and hopes that he won’t just be a “one-hit wonder”.

He previously said: “I don’t want to be a one-hit wonder, so I’ve got a lot of work to do.”
