New Zealand Boaters Free Dolphin Tangled in Fishing Nylon

Two boaters helped free a dolphin entangled in fishing nylon off the coast of Kawau Island, Auckland, New Zealand, on January 3.

Phil Robertson filmed a video that shows his friend Steve Hathaway jumping into the water to steady the dolphin and guide it towards the boat. Robertson grabs one end of the fishing nylon and helps to pull the nylon off the dolphin’s body.

In his Instagram post, Robertson urged people not to discard fishing nylon into the ocean.

“Just because it’s out of sight and out of our minds doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have an impact on something else,” Robertson wrote. Credit: Phil Robertson via Storyful
