Zelensky Views Destruction in Bucha

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Bucha in Kyiv Oblast on April 4 to see the destruction left by the Russian invasion.

The bodies of civilians were found in the street after Russian troops withdrew and mass graves were uncovered.

Speaking to reporters in Bucha, Zelensky called the Russian actions a war crime and genocide, according to a translation of the video posted by Ukrainian state broadcaster Suspilne News on April 4. The statement echoed comments he made the previous day alleging torture and executions of civilians at the hands of Russian forces.

The video shows Zelensky answering reporters’ questions in Ukrainian while standing next to a burned-out fuel tanker on a Bucha street with heavily damaged homes in the background.

Zelensky said in a post on his official Telegram channel on April 4 that he also visited a center distributing humanitarian aid to residents. Credit: Suspilne News via Storyful
