An Ayr curry house has lifted the lid on its ongoing national success - after landing another prize double on the big stage.

Husband and wife team Karamjeet Sing and Rajinder Kaur are the duo behind Curry Leaf, which has racked up a dozen top awards in little more than six years since opening on Wills Road.

Their latest victory saw them crowned the region's Takeaway of the Year for the south west, before they went on to scoop the pretigious overall award for Scotland. It continues their meteoric rise after opening their family-run base which promises home-cooked cuisine with a twist.

Rajinder told Ayrshire Live: "The key to any success like this is consistency. You have to keep giving your customers that same level of food so that they want to keep coming back, and hopefully that's what we do. My husband's father ran a restaurant and it was the same with my side of the family...this is literally in our blood. We are very proud of what we do.

"We try to keep standards up all the time and offer something a bit different, so we'd probably call our food Indian Fusion. Things like curried nachos are on our menu and prove very popular. Doing things with a twist has been very successful for us and the main compliment is that these awards came from customer votes, which means everything to us."

Since opening, the Curry Leaf team have stacked up awards across a host of categories at the likes of the Scottish Takeaway Awards, Curry Takeaway of the Year and the Nation's Curry Awards.

Rajinder added: "For us to be nominated is amazing - winning is even more special. We have only been in business for around six years, so when you're going up against restaurants and takeaways from across Scotland that have been established for more than 20 years in some cases, it means a lot to win.

"As a business we also try to do our bit for charity where we can and with Karamjeet's family still living back in India, we try to get involved with projects - no matter how big or small - as sometimes it's the little things that mean the most. So donating to that kind of work has also become a big part of what we do here, and we'd also like to get involved in local work here in Ayr as much as we can."

Other Ayrshire winners at the Scottish Curry Awards included Motherland Spice in Saltcoats, who fought off tough competition to be named 'Best of Ayrshire,' with Priya in Ayr won a highly commended award. The New Restaurant of the Year saw a Highly Commended award go to Brown Munde in Kilmarnock, while the event organisers named 3idiots as Recommended Restaurant of the Year.
