Teacher Suspended Over 'Inbred' Locals Slur

A primary school teacher has been suspended after allegedly labelling locals as "thick" and "inbred" on Facebook, according to Sky sources.

Nyanza Roberts is said to have posted the statements during an online conversation with other members of staff at Westcott Primary School in Hull, believed to include the head.

When one of them said he was in town and fed up with bumping into children, Ms Roberts apparently responded: "do you mean top end of holderness road?

"that's bout as far as anyone in east hull goes! no wonder everyone is thick...inbreeding must damage brain development."

"Debbie Johnson" then says: "You're really on one today mrs... !! Xx."

Hull Council has launched an investigation and the chair of the governors Mary Wallace has written to parents to offer them a "sincere apology".

Some found out about the incident after copies of the chat were posted on lampposts and put through letterboxes.

A number of parents have threatened to withdraw their children from the school, which has has just been removed from Ofsted's "special measures" blacklist, if Ms Roberts is allowed to stay.

One mother said: "How can anyone respect or trust someone who has made these comments?"

Another commented: "I think it is disgusting. I don't really want to bring my children to school to be honest - but I would get prosecuted if I didn't."

Others described the Ms Roberts as "fantastic", although they felt the reported Facebook chat had been inappropriate.

In a statement Westcott's headteacher Debbie Johnson claimed the comments had been taken out of context.

She said: "While we are taking these comments seriously, they have been taken out of context.

"The full detail of the conversation was banter about rugby from both sides of the city."

Hull Council refused to say whether Ms Roberts had been suspended.
