Dramatic photos showed a van on fire near the M57.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended the blaze on Ribblers Lane in Kirkby this morning, Tuesday, April 23. Crews were alerted at 7.19am and on scene at 7.26am, with two fire engines attending.

Firefighters arrived to find the van was "well alight". One firefighter used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the blaze. Pictures taken by an eyewitness showed bright orange flames coming from the van and huge plumes of black smoke pouring into the air.

Merseyside Police were requested to assist with traffic management. Fire crews left the scene at 8.03am. For the latest news and breaking news visit liverpoolecho.co.uk/news.
