Thousands Greet Pope Francis During Papal Parade in Washington

Thousands lined the streets in Washington, D.C., on September 23 to catch a glimpse of Pope Francis. A papal parade was held after Francis was welcomed to the White House and then met privately with US President Barack Obama. This video shows a portion of the parade.

Following his papal parade, Francis prayed with American bishops at St. Matthew’s Cathedral. A canonization service is scheduled for the afternoon.

Francis’ six-day trip is his first visit to the United States since becoming pope. He will speak to a joint session of Congress on September 24 before flying to New York. In New York, the pope will address the United Nations and celebrate Mass at Madison Square Garden. He wraps up his visit in Philadelphia, which includes attending the World Meeting of Families.
