A grassroots rugby player fluffed his lines in emphatic fashion to ruin what should have been a brilliant try.

Guernsey St Jacques Vikings put together a lovely move, with their front-row forwards exchanging some excellent offloads together to pierce the opposition's defence.

In a completely chaotic sequence, it culminated in a St Jacques player scooping up a low offload with admirable ability, before inexplicably dropping the ball one-handed as he crossed the whitewash.

"And that's why, you keep two hands on the ball!" said one viewer.

The clip has since picked up well over 1m views across their social media channels, and is one of the most-viewed rugby videos on Instagram in the past week.

St Jacques actually secured promotion to Counties One Hampshire in this game with a 108-15 win over Chichester 2s.

The club wrote: "We can confirm that our promotion to Counties 1 Hampshire has been confirmed! This is amazing news & a huge testament to the hard work of all our players, coaching & support staff, & committee to secure back to back promotions.
