2 boys rushed to hospital after firefighters rescue them from West London river

Two boys have been rescued from a river in West London. Firefighters rushed to the River Colne in West Drayton shortly before 6.40pm yesterday (Wednesday, May 8) to reports of people struggling in the water.

London Fire Brigade used water rescue equipment to help two boys, aged 11 and 15, in the water. They were both taken to hospital.

One further adult man exited the water before the Brigade arrived and declined medical treatment, LFB confirmed.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The best thing you can do if you see someone in difficulty in the water is to call 999, try to give an exact location about where you are and keep your eyes on the last spot you saw them.

"If you go into the water to rescue people, pets or belongings, you could be putting yourself at risk as well.”

Two fire engines from Heathrow and Hayes station attended the incident, along with fire and rescue units from Wembley, Bethnal Green and surrounding fire stations. Firefighters eventually left the scene shortly before 8.40pm the same evening.
