Transport for London (TfL) unveiled plans earlier this year to extend the Bakerloo line in South London, with work expected to commence in the 2030s and the new route opening by 2040.

The proposed extension would stretch from Elephant and Castle to Lewisham, potentially adding three new stops along the way. There's also a possibility of further expansion beyond Lewisham.

TfL has hinted at potential locations for new Tube stations, including Burgess Park and Old Kent Road.

Currently, the closest Underground stations to Burgess Park are Kennington and Oval on the Northern line, while South Bermondsey National Rail station lies to the east.

To the southeast is Queens Road Peckham Overground stop.

Plans are also underway for an Old Kent Road station between the proposed Burgess Park stop and New Cross Gate. The latter already serves as an Overground and National Rail station, while Lewisham is a DLR stop with nationwide rail services available.

Documents published in February reveal a map that officials are currently working with, suggesting new Tube stops at Burgess Park and Old Kent Road, and introducing new Tube services at existing 'interchange stations' - New Cross Gate and Lewisham.

Meanwhile, the dream of extending the Metropolitan line to Hertfordshire has been dashed, with plans for two new Underground stations outside the capital now scrapped. The Croxley Rail Link project would have seen the creation of two new Tube stations at the northwest end of the Metropolitan Line.

Under the original proposal, Tube trains would have been rerouted from Watford station to Cassiobridge, the first of the two proposed stations. Despite an initial completion date set for 2020, the development was abruptly halted in 2017.

The second new station, Watford Vicarage Road, would have followed Cassiobridge, with trains then continuing on to Watford High Street and Watford Junction, bypassing Watford station entirely. However, this development also came to a standstill in 2017.

Hertfordshire County Council is now exploring 'alternative uses' for the disused railway line between Watford and Croxley, following the cancellation of the Metropolitan line Extension project.
