5 Phones For Less Than £200 Which Are Just As Good As iPhone
People are still incredulous at the idea that a cheap Android can do all the things an iPhone can - and sometimes more.
But as the innovation in expensive flagship smartphones slows down, we’re entering a boom time for bargains.
These days, you can get genuinely good phones for less than £200 - and sometimes less than £100.
Can they really outperform a top-of-the-line iPhone 6S Plus?
Of course not - but they’ll be more than a match for that old iPhone 5 you’ve still got rattling around in your pocket….
One Plus X
Chinese brand OnePlus has stealthily taken over the world of value phones - and while its flagship OnePlus 3 is superb, this cheaper model is excellent, too.
It’s the same size as Apple’s iPhone 5SE, and around a third of the price.
It’s made of metal (unlike most cheapo phones, which tend to feel like a shrink-wrapped circuit-board), has a very decent screen and a glass back.
It’s available via Amazon resellers for less than £200.
Wileyfox Storm
Can you actually get a decent Android phone for less than £100? Wiley Fox offers one - the £90 Spark, which is a 5.5-inch touchscreen.
But that’s not actually the best WileyFox: if you’re smart, fork out a bit extra for the Storm, which offers much faster components, and better performance.
Available for £200, the Spark offers a 20-megapixel camera, 5.5-inch HD screen and a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor.
Vodafone Smart Prime 7
The devices offered by networks themselves don’t have a particularly distinguished history - but this smartphone from Vodafone is incredible value.
It’s £75 upfront on Pay as You Go (ie without monthly fees), and it’s a 5.5-inch Android with a perfectly decent screen and camera.
It’s not exactly a speedy performer, though, with a slow Snapdragon 210 processor meaning that apps tend to grind into life.
But if you’ve lost a handset, and can’t face paying out hundreds for a replacement, it’s a perfectly decent option - so long as you don’t mind being locked to Vodafone.
Honor 5X
Chinese company Huawei’s Honor handsets have been bringing a dash of quality to the budget market for a while now - and this phone’s a bargain.
For your money (around £170), you get an aluminium-body phone - and extras such as a fingerprint scanner (lacking on most cheap models).
It’s not the fastest phone out there, armed with a Snapdragon 616 processor, but it’s fine for most tasks, looks the part, and has a very decent 13-megapixel camera.
Moto G4
If you’re shopping for bargain phones, Motorola’s Moto G handsets have become a reliable first stop - and this one doesn’t break the mould.
You can pick it up for around £150.
For the money, it’s impressively powerful - and the battery’s long-lasting, despite the 5.5-inch Full HD display.
It feels cheap, though, with a plastic back - and it’s missing extras such as a fingerprint scanner.
