650 people complained to OFCOM about Love Island gaslighting Dani Dyer
Last night’s Love Island angered viewers after producers showed selective footage that saw contestant Dani Dyer in floods of tears and hundreds of OFCOM complaints in the process.
Fans slammed the show for showing out of context footage to Dani, 22, when her on-show love interest Jack, also 22, was unexpectedly reunited with his ex-girlfriend.
Dani and Jack have been coupled up for most of the show but it appears ITV2 bosses are doing everything in their power to cause conflict after a cleverly edited piece of video was shown to Dani after Jack was whisked away to another villa and into the company of his ex-girlfriend Ellie.
Despite Jack not straying, the clip shown to the daughter of EastEnders actor Danny Dyer merely showed the lad saying the words ‘Oh my god, that’s the bird I was seeing before I was in here,’ upon seeing her.
Naturally, this set Dani off as she began crying and worried about them being together. Viewers weren’t impressed by the show’s attempts to upset her, either and accused producers of gaslighting her.
Yahoo Celebrity can confirm that 650 people complained to OFCOM about the cruel incident, prompting them to look into the matter.
OFCOM confirmed to us that ‘these [complaints] will be assessed against the broadcasting code before a decision is made whether or not to investigate.’
And fans were left livid, tweeting about how unnecessary and cruel the move was.
And some complained to OFCOM via social media, too.

Complain to #Ofcom. This is mental cruelty and highly abusive behaviour from #ITV producers. Between their treatment of #Dani & promoting abuse of women by Adam & Wes, #LoveIsland is way out of line

#ofcom emotional bullying on TV is not OK and is bad form from #itv2 #LoveIsland

I am sure Ofcom will be contacting ITV after the number of complaints they will have received following the massive Twitter response after tonight's LoveIsland which shows producers using edited video to promote an emotional response from Dani with no regard for her mental health

And to add fuel to the fire, the show itself tweeted about Dani’s heartbreak, despite they themselves orchestrating said upset.

Only recently did Jack confess his feelings for Dani to his pal Adam, revealing he had fallen for her: ‘I keep picturing Dani’s face and I want to see it. I really do,’ he shared.
‘I actually love her. I’m not going to lie to you. I love Dani Dyer. I actually love her.’
Catch Love Island weeknights from 9pm, on ITV2.
