New 75-tonne footbridge unveiled at train station after months of work

A new 75-tonne footbridge has opened at the train station in Uddingston as part of the station's transformation plans.

After months of work, the replacement footbridge was unveiled to the public on Thursday, June 27.

Network Rail staff gathered at the station on Wednesday to carry out final inspections on the bridge, which we previously reported had been installed in March.

The old footbridge will be removed this weekend, and there will be temporary changes to parking on the Platform 2 side overnight to allow access for a crane.

The next phase of work is to upgrade the station's power supply to support the two new lifts set to open to the public later this summer.

The road and car park will be closed on the Platform 1 side, but pedestrians will still have access.

Once it is finished, the new structure will make it easier for those with mobility difficulties to use the station, as well as people with bikes, prams or heavy luggage.
