Motorists wanting to travel southbound on the A12 could be forced onto a three-mile diversion route due to closures planned near Marks Tey and Stanway. Work is to be done in "hard-to-reach" areas on the southbound carriageway as part of ongoing work close to Colchester.

Work will be delivered overnight from 8pm to 6am on Friday (June 21), Saturday (June 22) and Sunday (June 23). Work will finish on June 24 at 6am.

The A12 will be closed southbound between Junction 26 (Stanway) and Junction 25 (Marks Tey) on each of these evenings to allow for the lane closure for the weekend work. During this time traffic will be diverted on a three-mile route through Stanway and Copford.

Traffic will be diverted to exit at Junction 26 Stanway and travel long the A1124, B1408 (London Road) and re-join the A12 at Junction 25 Marks Tey southbound entry slip road. The contraflow roadwork lane will remain open as normal.

A spokesperson for National Highways East said: "We advise motorists wanting to continue on the A12 southbound past junction 25 (Marks Tey) to use this lane. Traffic travelling in the inside lane will be diverted off of the A12 at junction 25 southbound exit slip road.

"Customers in this lane that wish to continue travelling southbound along the A12 will be diverted up and over the junction, to rejoin the A12 via the junction 25 southbound entry slip road. There will also be a full closure of junction 25 exit slip for 4 weeks, starting from 24th June as we upgrade it. Southbound traffic will be diverted via junction 24 during this time.

"We thank you for your patience and cooperation during these overnight closures. More info on these overnight closures and future road closures is available here."
