Vicente Besuijen is set to revive his career at Aberdeen under the guidance of new boss Jimmy Thelin.

The attacking midfielder will be back for pre-season training with the new Dons manager later this month despite not having played a single game for Aberdeen last season.

The 23-year-old spent the latter half of the campaign impressing in the Dutch Second Division with Emmen. Now, he's returning to Scotland to see what lies ahead.

His last appearance for Aberdeen was in January 2023, and despite being a high-profile signing from ADO Den Haag, Besuijen has yet to replicate the early success he enjoyed under Stephen Glass.

Meanwhile, striker Pape Habib Gueye won't be present on Thelin's first day as his loan to Norwegian club Kristiansund doesn't end until next month, reports the Daily Record.

The 24-year-old Senegalese forward, signed from KV Kortrijk, has also found it challenging to secure regular playtime at Pittodrie and moved to Norway for more game time in January.

Thelin is expected in Aberdeen next week, with his squad due to return the following week. The ex-Elfsborg manager is yet to make any additions to his team.

He will commence his tenure at Pittodrie next month in the Premier Sports Cup. Aberdeen are scheduled to play away games against Queen of the South and East Kilbride before hosting Airdrie and Dumbarton at home.
