It’s that time of year again: As we creep closer and closer to the release date of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, slowly — and usually completely by accident — spoilers are going to start sneaking out. The thing about this latest spoiler, though, is that it’s potentially a BIG one, as it directly deals with Rey, and her parents.

Intriguing, right? Before we go on, here’s a friendly Star Wars spoiler warning, as this could be true, or Adam Driver could be royally messing with us. Hopefully it’s the latter, and he is just getting his characters and background confused…or this is major.

But first, the tiniest bit of backstory about Rey, and it’s tiny because we literally don’t know anything. We first meet Rey on Jakku, where she lives as a scavenger but clearly dreams of something else, namely, finding the parents who left her there as a child. Rey is incredibly Force sensitive, and might even be stronger than her new enemy, Kylo Ren (aka, Ben Solo). Though we don’t see this play out in The Force Awakens, the novelization of the movie explains that Kylo feels some sort of “connection” with Rey, and that is troubling for so many reasons.

Now, in a new interview with GQ, the man behind the temper tantrums and mask, Adam Driver, talks about his role in the movie, along with his mask and how he’s “skinning” the layers of the character:

“I remember the initial conversations about having things ‘skinned,’ peeling away layers to evolve into other people, and the person Kylo’s pretending to be on the outside is not who he is,” he explained to GQ. “He’s a vulnerable kid who doesn’t know where to put his energy, but when he puts his mask on, suddenly, he’s playing a role. [Force Awakens director] J.J. [Abrams] had that idea initially and I think [Last Jedi director] Rian [Johnson] took it to the next level.”

Not too spoiler-y, eh? Well, Driver continues and that’s when he drops the major bombshell. Talking about Rey, he continues:

“You have, also, the hidden identity of this princess who’s hiding who she really is so she can survive and Kylo Ren and her hiding behind these artifices.”

What.

Rey is…a princess??!? Driver unfortunately doesn’t elaborate on this statement any future, but like, WHOA. What? Whoa.

Also, from Driver’s comments, it sounds like Rey knows she’s a princess and is trying to hide her identity; so maybe she’s known all along about her family, and has been keeping that a secret until she can get back to them? ALSO, this basically implies that Rey is like the second coming of Princess Leia, who is also royalty, and who was placed in hiding and away from her father’s reach — and her father, being Darth Vader.

But the bigger question still remains: Is this a real spoiler, or is Driver just throwing words around? We’ll find out in 45 days.
