CHERRIES midfielder Tyler Adams made his return to the United States starting line-up on Sunday night, helping Gregg Berhalter’s squad claim three points in their Copa America opener.

Adams started and played 45 minutes as the United States defeated Bolivia 2-0 in both nations’ opening match of the Copa America tournament.

It marked Adams’ first start since scoring the winning goal against Mexico in March in the 2023-24 CONCACAF Nations League final.

Christian Pulisic’s powerful right-footed strike in the third minute put the Americans 1-0 up. The former Chelsea man picked up possession from a corner kick before drilling a shot into the top-right corner.

Folarin Balogun extended the Americans’ lead before half-time, finishing off a Pulisic pass with a confident strike.

Berhalter’s side were rarely troubled in the match, with goalkeeper Matt Turner making just two saves in the shutout victory.

Adams was replaced at half-time by Yunus Musah, watching the second half from the sidelines.

The 25-year-old entered the match with only six appearances to date for club and country in 2024 due to respective hamstring and back injuries.

The Cherries midfielder missed most of the second half of the season, but did make his international return last week in a 1-1 friendly draw with Brazil.

He now has 40 caps with the USMNT since debuting in 2017.

Adams will aim to keep his starting spot when the United States next faces CONCACAF rivals Panama on June 27 in Atlanta, Georgia.
