Adidas builds world’s first football pitch with a gender

Adidas has unveiled the world's first football pitch designated with a gender.

The 'Female Field', in collaboration with Havas Middle East, aims to challenge long-standing cultural norms in Arab nations that often deter young girls from engaging in sports.

Historically, societal pressures have led to a concerning trend, with roughly 73% of Arab girls quitting sports by age 14.

The initiative is sought to break down the barriers and foster a new wave of female athletes. The concept is uniquely intertwined with the Arabic language, where many sports-related terms - such as "ball," "run," "kick," "jump," and "goal" - carry a grammatically feminine form, marked by the "Ta’Marbuta" symbol.

Drawing from this linguistic feature, Adidas has reimagined sports fields in Dubai, transforming the center circle of soccer fields with two dots to symbolise their new identity as "Female Fields," thereby challenging the conventional male-centric view of sports.

The pioneering approach has not only redefined spaces traditionally dominated by men but also spurred Adidas to create gender-specific venues for other sports, including basketball and ice hockey, igniting a broader movement for gender inclusivity in athletics.
