This adorable elephant calf may only be four days old, but he’s already up on his feet exploring his new world.

The healthy Asian elephant calf was born at Dublin Zoo last Thursday after a 22-month gestation period.

The calf is over a metro tall already, and weighs as much as an adult human - but doesn’t yet have a name.

Dublin Zoo are running a competition to name their new arrival, who will join the rest of the herd, including his mother Yasmin and father Upali, in the zoo’s Kaziranga Forest Trail.

The zoo’s assistant director, Paul O’Donoghue, said: ‘We are absolutely thrilled with the new arrival.

‘The calf was born within three minutes and after eight minutes he was up and taking his first steps, watched closely by his mum Yasmin and the rest of the females in the herd.’
