Alan Carr has said his husband Paul Drayton is getting the help he needs after he “fell off the wagon and started drinking again”.

The comedian, 45, spoke out after Drayton shared a picture on social media in which he appeared to have a black eye.

Drayton – who tied the knot with the TV star in 2018 - told a fan he'd had a "bad row" but he didn’t say who he'd had a row with and the photo has now been taken down.

Carr has now explained how his husband got his injury, telling The Sun: “While I was away filming on location the past few weeks, Paul fell off the wagon and started drinking again. When I arrived back home from Wales, Paul was covered in scratches and bruises from a drinking binge."

Carr and Drayton had been dating for around 10 years before they tied the knot in 2018 in Adele’s back garden.

The singer is a close friend of Carr’s and she got ordained and conducted the ceremony.

Carr has spoken of Drayton’s previous issues with alcohol before, and once shared that he went tee total to support his husband after he went to rehab.

Earlier this summer, the comedian paid tribute to Drayton as they celebrated their anniversary.

Sharing a holiday snap on Instagram, he wrote: "Happy Anniversary to my darling @pauldrayton1. We met 13 long years ago today and we’ve never looked back (well maybe a bit of side eye).

"Here we are on holiday (remember those) in Marrakesh at Yves Saint Laurent’s house - he wasn’t in - looking our usual understated selves. To LOVE and HOLIDAYS."
