Aldi announces major change to popular product sold in some of its stores
Aldi has announced a major change to a customer-favourite product.
The budget supermarket giant is bringing in new recyclable wrap packaging on two its own-label butter lines. From next month, all non-recyclable packaging on block butter will be swapped out with a paper-based alternative wrap that customers can recycle at home.
Products affected include the Specially Selected West Country and Yorkshire block butter. Aldi claims this will help remove more than 10 tonnes of non-recyclable packaging from circulation each year.

Luke Emery, Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, said: “We are committed to minimising plastic packaging at Aldi, and we are constantly exploring ways in which we can make a meaningful change to our products. Through the introduction of these new recyclable packaging innovations, we hope to help customers reduce plastic use when shopping for everyday items at Aldi.”
It comes after the supermarket chain replaced the outer plastic wrap for its Everyday Essentials cheese singles with a new paper packaging. According to Aldi, this helped eliminate an additional 23 tonnes of plastic waste annually.
