Aldi introduces two new rules for £3.30 bags filled with £10 worth of food

Aldi has introduced new rules for its £3.30 bags filled with at least £10 worth of food. The budget supermarket's partnership with Too Good To Go has led to Aldi customers saving a staggering £7 million.

Since joining forces with the world's largest surplus food platform in February 2023, Aldi has sold over half a million bags, contributing to an estimated reduction of 1,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions. These Surprise Bags are packed with items nearing their sell-by or use-by dates and are snapped up for just £3.30, despite containing groceries valued at a minimum of £10.

The supermarket chain has now revealed the top locations where its customers have made the biggest savings, ranging from Birmingham and London to Glasgow and beyond. Birmingham tops the list, with around 14,000 Surprise Bags purchased, translating into customer savings of more than £270,000.

London is hot on the heels with residents scooping up 11,800 bags and enjoying savings surpassing £230,000. In Liverpool and Northampton, shoppers have each pocketed around £130,000 and £100,000 in savings respectively.

Liz Fox, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, shared her enthusiasm: "It is amazing to see the sheer number of our customers that have made the most of our Too Good To Go Surprise Bags since launching last year."

"This partnership not only allows us to reduce food waste and demonstrate our commitment to being a sustainable retailer, but also enables our customers to access quality food whilst saving even more on their shop."

The update follows Aldi's recent announcement about widening the collection window for its Too Good To Go bags, now allowing customers to reserve a bag up to 24 hours before collection time through the app. Additionally, from April 21, Surprise Bags will also be available for purchase on Sundays.

Aldi continues its efforts to combat food waste by donating surplus items via its partnership with Neighbourly, contributing over 45 million meals to those in need since 2019.
